About tom_s
Europe-born, Tom escaped Hungary (and soccer) in 1956 and, following three nomadic and fantastic years in Italy, alit in 1959 in the States and Pittsburgh. Yes, he sat in Forbes Field waving Bob Prince’s Green Weenie fan. Having followed Horace Greeley’s advice, Tom is a 1971 graduate of UCLA, meaning he was there both for Kareem’s Sky Hook and Walton’s let’s-burn-down-the-place cries. Spent the next 18 years covering college football and MLB for the L.A. Herald Examiner, going down with that paper in 1989. Following a decade of freelance writing, MLB.com reunited him with his first sporting love. Tom and wife Malvina reside in Scottsdale, and have two grown children, Jason and Sean.
