Hague makes room for Morton

In what is certain to be an unpopular move among the team’s fans, the Pirates cleared roster room for right-hander Charlie Morton by optioning infielder Matt Hague to Class AAA Indianapolis.

An infielder was certain to surrender his spot on the 25-man roster to Morton — who is coming off the DL to fasce the Giants tonight — but the likelier choice appeared to be either Josh Harrison or Yamaico Navarro. Third baseman Pedro Alvarez, struggling with 10 strikeouts in 16 at-bats compared to only one hit, also seemed more likely to go than Hague.

In his first week as a Major Leaguer, Hague was 1-for-9, with two strikeouts.

boo, send down jhay

demote hurdle.Cant score runs, anyone who was hitting in the spring went to the minors, now hague goes.get rid of alvarez not hague. No more intentioal walks either.Hes a terrible manager.Look at last year.He ruined a good chance last year by over managing

I don’t like it but I understand it. He needs to play everyday for awhile. It is hard to be a pinch hitter but their plans for him are more than that. I like Jones but I think Hague has real potential to be the every day first baseman. He’ll be back this season, probably sooner than we think. JC

Jones has to go. I don’t understand, he doesn’t stand a chance to produce everyday yet we continue to send him out there.
