Hey Tom, I saw you mentioned Pedro hit one out to left field and that being a good sign. Just as a trivia novelty, I was at the game when he hit his first major league home run (I’m from Richmond, VA and go to 1 game a year). A boy caught it about 30 feet from me and was promptly rushed away by attendants. Guess where it was hit? Left field.

I appreciate you keeping your promise on getting out information about the team to us. I enjoy your articles. Like you, I have been following the Bucs since Ralph Kiner, Gus Bell and Murray Dickson. Dickson was 22 -20 that year when the team won only 42 games. Dick Groat said he got his minor league expeience with that team. This is my second attempt to write this; I don’t know what nappened to the first. The Pirates will always be my team. At the moment I am intrigued by Marte who is pushing his competition. Presley is responding well though and has probably earned the starting job in right. But, Marte is making a statement for consideration. It is a good problem to have. Thanks again for your fine reporting.

I don’t know what happened to your first writing attempt either, John, but am glad you gave it a second shot! I love Starling … it will be very interesting to see where he’s at in 7-10 days. The bat? Nice. But the speed is something Hurdle could really put to great use. The Bucs seem to have a richness of outfielders, a very good situation.
